We all age differently, but our skin goes through many changes. Wrinkles, loss of elasticity, dryness, and discoloration are some problems we face as we grow older. Although we have no way of stopping time, there are things you can do to look younger than ever.
Here are some essential tips on skin care routines that could bring back the beauty that time has taken away from you.
PREVENTION IS KEY
It is never too soon, or too late, to start preventing wrinkles. Start now, and you’ll thank yourself later.
LOOK AFTER EVERY PART OF YOUR BODY Apart from your face–the first sign of aging that others would notice would be found on your neck, chest, and hands. These are all key areas of concern for any woman who wishes to maintain her youthful look, so make sure you keep these areas well moisturized with SPF 30+ sunscreen!
EAT FOODS RICH IN ANTIOXIDANTS Antioxidants prevent your skin from getting damaged by free radicals. If you want flawless skin, don’t forget about adding these antioxidant-rich foods to your meals: – Dark chocolate – Watermelon – Garlic – Broccoli – Potatoes – Cabbage – Lettuce – Squash – Strawberries – Avocado
AVOID BEING EXPOSED TO THE SUN FOR TOO LONG Stay protected from the sun because it can cause your skin to look older than it really is. The sun is what causes most of the wrinkles, age spots, and uneven pigmentation on people’s skin–which we call photoaging.
Dermatologists recommend wearing sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, which blocks 97% of the sun’s UVB rays. However, it is worth noting that a higher number SPFs only block marginally more of the sun’s UVB rays; no matter how high you go up there will always be a 3% exposure risk.

NON-INVASIVE SKIN-TIGHTENING TREATMENTS
Non-invasive treatments are best for younger to middle aged patients because the adverse effects of aging have not fully become present. Examples include:
INJECTABLE WRINKLE FILLERS Wrinkle Fillers are injected into problem areas such as lines and wrinkles. Unlike Botox injections which work by relaxing the muscle below the wrinkle, these fillers work by filling up the line or crease with either a collagen-based substance or hyaluronic acid to smooth out trouble spots.
The treatment is easily, and quickly done but there are a range of effects depending on what you’re looking for from the service. Wrinkle Fillers are not just for wrinkles – they can also be used as volumizers, plumping, and lifting cheeks, chins, jawlines, temples, and lips. Wrinkle fillers could lift up a drooping eyelid or under-eye area too!
CHEMICAL PEELS This technique is one of my favorites because it removes all the imperfections in one go. A chemical peel uses a substance to eliminate dead cells from the top layer of skin on certain parts of the body–like the face, neck, or hands. It does this in a controlled manner where it damages only specific cells that are past their expiration date–but leaves healthy ones alone. This procedure can fix age spots, acne scars, and many types of wrinkles!
MICRONEEDLING Microneedling is a procedure, often used by dermatologists, which penetrates the skin with tiny needles, and causes damage to prompt the dermal layer of skin to regenerate.
Microneedling may not seem like an instant solution but the long-term benefits are worth waiting for. After just a few sessions, one will notice tighter skin, diminished scarring, and less visible wrinkles–all while increasing cell renewal.
ULTHERAPY Ultherapy has been recognized by the Food and Drug Administration as a groundbreaking technology for lifting one’s skin around the neck, chin, and browline. The ultrasound imaging used with Ultherapy delivers energy to targeted areas of skin which will make your appearance look fuller while smoothing out facial lines, and wrinkles over time.
RETINOIDS Research has shown that retinoids are one of the most effective ways to care for maturing skin. This is because they reduce signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, large pores, and more.
Use retinol cream at least once every two days for a few weeks before gradually increasing how often you use it. Do not forget to protect yourself from the sun when using them!
INVASIVE SKIN-TIGHTENING TREATMENTS
Aging is inevitable, but luckily there are ways to combat some of its effects. Wrinkles around the eye, and mouth, sagging skin, deep creases on the neck, drooping eyelids; if you’re experiencing these issues then there are surgical options available for treatment.
FACE LIFT ( RHYTIDECTOMY) Facelifts are a popular procedure used to correct the signs of facial aging–often referred to as lunchtime surgery because it can take less than an hour! It works by repositioning or removing skin, fat, and muscle from your face, and neck to improve signs of aging such as:
Noticeable deepening lines right under your nose at the top of your upper lip;
A jowly appearance (caused by loose skin) around the bottom section of your cheeks, and also underneath or around the base of your chin;
Loose skin on all parts of your neck, which sometimes creates an unattractive double-chin look if not taut enough.
NECK LIFT (LOWER RHYTIDECTOMY) As time goes on, you may find that the skin on your neck no longer matches your face. While a complete facelift is an option, it’s also possible to only tighten the neck instead with a quick, and easy procedure called a neck lift.
EYELID LIFT (BLEPHAROPLASTY) Upper, and lower eyelid surgery gives you a fresh look for at least five years or more. Your eyes will still age, but if they droop again, it may be time for a forehead lift instead of another eye lift.
FOREHEAD LIFT A forehead lift can be used to change the look of a person, and remove signs of aging, including drooping eyebrows, hooded eyelids, wrinkles across the forehead, and frown lines around the mouth. The surgery can also be combined with other facial procedures such as facelifts, eyelid surgery, or nose reshaping.
There are two different types of forehead lifts: the open forehead lift, and the minimally-invasive endoscopic forehead lift.
OPEN FOREHEAD LIFT The surgeon begins with an incision at the hairline that extends across the forehead to just below the ears before pulling back skin from around it to clean it up, and make sure there are no irregularities left behind. From there, they will clean out excess fat, and skin while also aligning any misplaced muscle underneath–all while placing your brows up as high as they would naturally go. A few stitches later, you’re done!
MINIMALLY-INVASIVE ENDOSCOPIC FOREHEAD LIFT A chief advantage of the endoscopic option is that it requires far fewer incisions–usually no more than three, but only about half an inch long each–compared to up to thirteen for a typical procedure! With its patented technology, surgeries typically take half as much time, and yield approximately four times lower risk for complications
RHINOPLASTY Rhinoplasty is a unique surgery that you may have not considered for aging effects on your face. With time, the skin begins to lose its elasticity, and collagen levels decrease which can result in a less defined jawline, drooping eyelids, nasolabial folds (folds from the nose to either side of the mouth), and nasal labial folds (folds from nostrils up to either side of the mouth). These changes are a natural process that cannot be stopped entirely but rhinoplasty can help reduce these effects by reconstructing areas of concern using healthy cartilage harvested from the ear or ribs.
Finding what works best for you will take time, but staying persistent pays off in the end because nobody will ever know how old you are!
