Have you heard of these trends creating buzz online? Sometimes it’s a convincing story on effective Korean beauty routines, and other times it’s information about what products will make your life easier without makeup. There are those among us who are still new to this beauty world – either lost and confused by the sheer number of trends and brands in a sea of makeup or just stepping foot into the world of skincare. Well, now all your beauty worries are solved! Take a look at these 7 Korean beauty secrets we've uncovered for you.
- JAMSU
Jamsu (잠수) in Korean, can mean underwater, submerged, or dive. In this case, it refers to a popular beauty practice called Jamsu–where one submerges his or her face with foundation on-in cold water.
Who knew that plunging your entire head into cold water would make such a difference? The right way to do this is to follow these 3 easy steps:
- Cleanse your skin with a facial cleanser, apply toner and moisturizer just as you would normally.
- Apply your foundation and blend in any concealer too. Dust an even layer of setting powder over the entire surface area–but avoid going near the areas around your eyes.
- Dunk your head underwater for fifteen seconds, pat dry gently and wait 10 minutes before applying eye shadow or anything else!
2. GIVE YOURSELF AN AT-HOME FACIAL MASSAGE!
What happens when your face muscles relax? Well, it turns out that all this tension (from working day in and day out) is causing wrinkles to form faster. So if you want to prevent yourself from aging prematurely just relax and massage your muscles!
Here's how it works–first you place your fingers just under the skin and start rubbing the muscles. The process increases circulation in your face and makes sure that all of your facial tissue remains healthy and looking nice and smooth.
In fact, it turns out that reciting vowels helps tone your face! If you put your hands on your cheeks while enunciating the vowel sounds, you'll feel the muscles you're working. Build this into your routine and watch those lines disappear over time!
3. FOLLOW THE 1-MINUTE RULE
When it comes to skin care, timing can be everything. Apply each skincare product 1 minute apart so that they can all sink deep into your skin and take advantage of the time before moving onto the next. If you put products too soon after each other, they will never fully penetrate your pores, making them less effective.
4. KEEP TOWELS OUT OF SIGHT AND AIR DRY YOUR FACE
A face towel can harbor 100 different types of bacteria. They cling to hair, sweat and dirt making it a great place for germs to grow. Every time you dry your face with a towel, bacteria transfers back onto your skin. This can lead to breakouts. Air drying leaves no chance of this happening because there are no towels involved and there's also nothing to rub harshly against your skin.
5. START YOUR DAY THE RIGHT WAY WITH BARLEY TEA
Drinking barley tea makes your skin radiant by improving blood circulation. It also contains antioxidants that protect your skin from outside harm–think of it as an anti-aging drink!
6. YOUR NECK AREA DESERVES SOME CARE TOO!
Think beyond your face when doing your skincare routine–taking care of your neck is just as important. This area of your body needs the most care since it is the first place where signs of aging show up.
If you are not careful, you may end up with wrinkles and dark spots that could have been prevented if you just used some sunscreen here. Remember to add this area in your daily skincare routine so that they can stay beautiful and young looking for years to come!
7. EXFOLIATE WITH WARM WATER AND A WASHCLOTH
Did you know that one million dead skin cells are shed every hour? Which means we have to do something with those old ones before they pile up and make us look old! Exfoliation helps give your skin a fresh new look so that you can maintain an even glow and prevent any signs of aging from showing!
It's normal to try out new things sometimes–whether it be trends, products or just about anything else, but always remember that matters most about your skincare routine is consistency. So find what works best for you and stick with it!
